The Top Ten Habits That Is Associated With Anxiety

There isn't anyone in this world who does not engage in some sort of "habit"...and often on a daily basis. Some people walk fast, while others twist their hair, for example. While most of these are actually benign behaviors, you should know that there are some habits that actually could be a sign that you suffer from anxiety.

Below are ten of the most common behaviors that people often erroneously refer to as "habits, without realizing that they may be attempting to compensate for feeling anxious:

1. Smoking - So many people smoke now...although many are learning that it can cause great harm to their health. There are many smoking cessation programs available which one can access. Note that smoking is often a telltale sign of anxiety.

2. Nail Biting - Thousands of people bite their nails every day. This ordinarily does not do much harm to people, except that it may lead to infection around the nail. Pay attention to the fact that you may be engaging in "nail biting" because you feel nervous and stressed.

3. Hair Pulling - This is more common than people think. Some people pull hair out from various regions of the body (eyelashes, eyebrows, scalp, etc...) when they feel anxious about something. Often this is done unconsciously. If done regularly and in excess, it can lead to hair-loss, and may be a sign of a more serious disorder known as "trichotillomania" (a close relative of a disorder known as OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Just note that this could indicate that you have anxiety.

4. Leg Bouncing - This can't do any harm to you...except to drive other people nuts watching you bounce your leg! However, it could be a sign to you that you need to relax more and are suffering from anxiety.

5. Foot Tapping - This can't cause any problems, other than to annoy others who are watching you tap your feet! Although...your feet might get tired! Bear in mind that "foot tapping" may be more than just a habit...it may indicate that you are stressed out.

6. Overeating - Most of us love to eat! But if done in excess, it could cause significant weight gain and lead to a variety of health problems. Comfort foods, such as brownies, cookies, fast food, and other high-sugar/high-fat snacks can cause obesity. Keep in mind that your "habit" of overeating may be a clear sign of anxiety.

7. Undereating - This could create a problem in that you may not get adequate nutrition and you could lose significant amounts of weight, which is referred to as "anorexia" in the medical world. It is essential to get the proper vitamins and minerals in order to stay healthy. Please note that undereating could be a sign that you have anxiety.

8. Oversleeping - This is known in the medical world as "hypersomnia". It can't do any harm to you, but if you are oversleeping you may be depressed. Depression is a close relative of anxiety, so be aware that you may have "hypersomnia" because you suffer from anxiety.

9. Undersleeping - This is known in the medical world as "insomnia" and can effect what's known as cortisol levels. Cortisol is a hormone that is effected when sleep is inadequate. Balanced cortisol levels are highly essential to having proper sleep, and thus keeping anxiety at a minimum. If you have "insomnia", then this may be a clear indicator that you have anxiety.

10. Skin Picking - This "habit" can cause harm to you, in that it may create scarring or infection to the area that is being picked. Note that sometimes people who engage in this "habit" are doing it to relieve stress or anxiety.

There are four easy steps to help you to better understand your "habit" and its cause:

Step 1. Pay attention to your own behavior, and notice your "habits."

Step 2. Ask others what habits they see you engaging in, of which you may be unaware.

Step 3. Document in a journal what these habits are, and when you engage in them. (e.g. "I seem to pace just before a big exam in school.")

Step 4. Over time, you can establish a pattern of when you engage in a particular habit, and thus pinpoint the cause.

Acupuncture As A Remedy for Back Pain

If you suffer from back pain you probably would not consider acupuncture as a treatment until you have exhausted many other alternatives. However, acupuncture is a type of ancient Chinese medicine that's been around for over 2,500 years and throughout this time it has been used for back pain relief, increasingly so in these modern times.

While it is not traditionally a part of western medicine, nowadays your doctor is quite likely to send you for this treatment if you are suffering from back or neck pain either persistantly or due to accident or injury.

If you are going to have this therapy you may want to know a little about how it works. The general belief is that the body has 20 energy flow patterns called meridians or pathways. Through these pathways it is thought that the life force or vital energy flows, this is known as the qi (it is pronounced chee) and is considered to be essential to maintain good health. There are over 2,000 points on our bodies that connect with these pathways and it is at these points which the hair-thin needles are inserted, this is done in varying specific combinations depending on the treatment required. These actions are believed to either correct the flow of qi or to reinforce it.

Even though it cannot be proven that this works as a type of pain relief, it is thought that as a result the central nervous system is stimulated. Most patients say that they get a pins and needles sensation on the insertion of the needles and indeed into the duration of the treatment, which usually lasts about 15 to 30 minutes. Some people report that they feel energised or even very relaxed so it appears as if the effect can be is somewhat different depending on the individual.

The acupuncturist will use up to 20 metallic needles during a treatment session and the depth they are inserted is dependent upon the area, deeper muscular or fatty areas need more penetration and the scalp for example would be just below the surface. The practitioner may turn the needles one way or another depending on what they are trying to achieve, in my personal experience they were turned on insertion, then again about half way through the treatment. At no point is the treatment painful, there is a mere sensation of the needles going in and they do not feel sharp at all, this is because unlike needles used for injections, an acupuncture needle’s tip come to a smooth point without sharp edges. They are also very thin, about 20 times thinner than a hypodermic needle. In my experience the most troublesome part of the treatment is lying in the same position without moving for up to 30 minutes, especially if you suffer from back pain or similar.

Although there are many medical experts who believe acupuncture is an effective way to treat certain conditions such as back pain, there is no true consensus. Some adhere to the theories of qi and meridians whilst others attribute acupunctures’ benefits to the biological changes that are brought about in the body as a result of treatment. Needless to say there will always be the sceptics who deny that acupuncture has any effect at all, but in my opinion if you are suffering from ongoing back pain it is certainly worth trying.

How to Turn Fear Into Excitement

Can we turn anxiety and panic into a positive experience? Can we turn fear into excitement?

I believe we can and I am going to explain briefly how it is done.

Anxiety/panic is an experience everyone tries to avoid and run from. Our instinct is to fight against the feeling and find some way to end it quickly so that we can return to feeling calm and safe.

I believe however, that it’s a lot easier to turn anxiety into excitement, rather than turning anxiety into a state of calm. The reason for this is because being anxious and excited are actually the same physiological states for your body (the aroused state), it’s just how your mind reacts to this state that determines the emotion you feel. I am going to show you how you can quickly train your mind to respond with excitement to anxiety/panic rather than fear.

Let’s use the example of a panic attack. A panic attack is almost always triggered by bodily sensations. Maybe your heart starts pounding or your chest feels tight. Maybe you feel dizzy or your body shakes. You know very well when its about to kick off and in a split second your mind reacts with fear to these bodily sensations. “Oh no here we go again, I am going to have a panic attack, -I might lose control, -I might die”.

That initial reaction is so split second it is almost impossible to control but at least now you are aware of what is happening and NOW is your moment to stop reacting and to choose a new response. Instead of reacting with resistance and fear to the sensations, you are going to respond with curiosity and excitement.

Here are the actual steps you need to take so that you can quickly move from fear to excitement:

1. Do not fight or resist the bodily sensations. (Remember, you are safe these sensations will not harm you)

2. Befriend the sensations and anxiety you feel, -do not see it as your enemy, it is your guide.

3. Embrace the sensations fully and observe them with a compassionate curiosity.

4. Now PLAY with the sensations. Encourage the bodily sensations to intensify. Get excited by this heightened state of arousal. Push the energy out and run with it. Let your heart pound, let your chest feel tight, let your mind race, let your body shake. Do not try and control it, experience it fully and feel really excited and alive because of it.

By taking the above steps you are doing something radically different. You are no longer resisting but embracing and moving with the experience. This movement is one of pure excitement as you ride the wave of fear instead of letting it toss you around.

Enjoy it, be excited by it , do not resist it.

That is how you turn fear into excitement.

TsuNoni - Green Tea Meets Noni

East Meets West

Asian cultures have realized the medical benefits of green tea for centuries. Those who drank it lived longer, healthier lives. Now science has discovered the reason behind the green tea phenomenon. Polyphenols, the antioxidants in green tea, can actually help lower cholesterol and promote healthy heart function. Plus studies show it is a great weight loss aid, helping to boost metabolism and suppress appetite. Given the amount of green tea needed to deliver these health benefits, it is almost impossible to drink enough in our busy lives.

Across the ocean in Polynesia, Noni is used for its’ health-regenerating properties. Polynesians rubbed this tropical fruit on burns and sores to relieve pain. Extensive research has finally unlocked the secret of Noni. The polysaccharides in Noni are different than the typical sugar type. Those in Noni are actually a form of dietary fiber, promoting proper digestion and enhancing your immune system. Unfortunately, the awful taste and foul odor prevent most of us from drinking it.

Green Tea Meets Noni

When combined, one would think green tea and Noni would make an unpalatable combination. However, just the opposite occurs. These two bitter ingredients actually become a tasty and powerful blend, known as TsuNoni.

In fact, this synergistic result is so rare, TsuNoni was issued a patent. When separate, Noni contains 11 mgs of antioxidants per gram and green tea has 88 mgs per gram. But when combined, lab studies prove these super-foods deliver 47% more antioxidants per gram. This 1+1=3 combination packs over 400 mgs of polyphenols and 70 mgs of polysaccharides per serving. TsuNoni is a healthy, effervescent fusion that tastes absolutely amazing.

Dreams Have No Boundaries

Have you watched the movie about Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean? It is an interesting movie and, like most people who push past known boundaries, she was a very intriguing person. She followed her dreams, and certainly her belief was that there are no boundaries to one's dreams.

I too agree with this philosophy. Dreams are unlimited, unrestricted and thus have infinite potential. Dreams inspire you, and enable you to stretch and grow. Yes, there are physical limitations which can cause issues, but your mind is full of endless potential. As you dream you allow your mind to explore new ideas, new concepts and you trigger a mechanism in your mind which automatically seeks a way to achieve your dreams.

When you dream you see pictures; clear, vivid, multi-colored, three dimensional pictures. You hear the sounds associated with those pictures and you become fully absorbed in the "reality" of your dreams. Dreaming is what makes a thought become "real" to you. Your physical body doesn't travel anywhere; it remains still and silent whilst your mind travels to endless far-away worlds. In your dreams, anything is possible; the impossible becomes possible.

As this imaginary world becomes ever more real to you in your dreams, your subconscious mind automatically aligns with this "goal". It instinctively seeks to find a way in which to make those dreams come true. The emotional vividness of your dreams is what triggers the incredible power of your own mind to push past boundaries and soar to new heights.

Your imagination is what paves the way to success. Without dreams life would be dull, boring and mundane; the air you breathe would feel stale and restrictive. But your ability to dream allows you spread your wings and fly, so long as you are open to doing so.

What might cause you to turn your back upon your dreams? What stops you from dreaming? Fear and insecurity is what stops so very many people from stepping out of their comfort zone and following their dreams. Fear is what makes life become stale and small.

In the movie Amelia Earhart explains something to a young child who is woken in the night, feeling afraid; he is afraid because the wall paper in the room is covered in tigers. He thinks the tiger's might come and get him. Amelia explains that her own most vivid fear was that of jungles and because of this she decorated the room in this way; whenever she was afraid she would walk into the room and face her fears.

Not everyone finds it that easy to confront their fears. The young boy in the movie responds by saying "I wish I lived with you because then I wouldn't be afraid of anything". Sometimes we need a little help and inspiration to enable us to overcome our fears. Ultimately we have to confront our fears, but most often it is easier to do so with a little bit if help.

Does the Slimming Pill Hold the Answer to Weight Loss

The "Diet Pill" has an obvious appeal to anyone who wants to lose weight fast, and with very little effort. How marvelous life would be if we could just pop a pill and body fat just melted away. Everyone knows, or should know at least, that if something sounds too easy or just too good to be true, that's because it is.

Every scientist, doctor, dietician and fitness trainer will tell you that taking diet pills is downright dangerous, but is it? And if it is, then how dangerous is it?

Well, according to scientists, some diet pills can cause panic attacks, strokes and even fatal heart attacks. Some of these "drugs", better known as phentermine are closely related to mphetamines, so they work as an appetite suppressant, stimulating the release of brain chemicals, which in turn reduces the sensations of hunger.

An overdose can lead to hallucinations, seizures, severe headaches, blurred vision and vomiting. Is all this information a little unnerving? It should be. And there's more. Here are some other so-called miracle slimming cures, which come in the form of a convenient pill.

The Diet Pill

---Amfepramone. This drug is known as "diethylpropion" in the UK, and was a prescription appetite suppressant branded as Apisate or Tenuate banned by the European Medicine Approval Agency in 1999 because of safety concerns. It works by mimicking the effects of noradrenaline in the nervous system to suppress hunger.

---Phenylpropanolamine (PPA). PPA is a vasoconstrictor used in nasal congestants and cough medicines, it is not approved in the UK for the treatment of obesity. Still used to control urinary incontinence in dogs.

---Ritalin (Methylphenidate). Ritalin is approved for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and not for weight loss. Side-effects are increased heart rate and raised blood pressure, which can greatly stress the cardio-vascular system. A schedule 2 controlled drug, classed alongside amphetamines.

---Clenbuterol. Clenbuterol was originally developed as an asthma treatment, but also seems to increase metabolic rate and causes people to lose fat and gain muscle. It is banned by the International Olympic Committee because of its abuse by athletes and body builders. Clenbuterol is also used in a veterinary product to treat breathing problems in horses. After poisoning episodes linked to the consumption of meat containing Clenbuterol residues, its use is strictly controlled.

What's very alarming about all these drugs is that they can be easily purchased over the Internet from unscrupulous dealers based outside of the European Union.

Pills that can be legitimately purchased in the UK include the popular "Slim Bomb" Weight Loss Pills. The manufacturers claim that many years of extensive research have gone into this little blue pill and that the formula has undergone many rigorous changes to produce the latest and very effective offering.

These pills are manufactured from a combination of herbal extracts and other natural substances that are thought to cause a thermogenesis reaction in the body. This reaction is supposed to stimulate and accelerate the metabolic rate, which in turn reduces hunger cravings and produce the kind of calorie burning effects more associated with body activity, such as exercise. Although all the ingredients appear to be organic in origin, no clinical evidence exists to confirm its effectiveness as a weight loss aid.

So, what can we deduce from this information about slimming pills? It would seem at worse they are dangerous to your health and at best they simply don't work. Dieters should avoid buying any pills available only online, as their pedigree is dubious at best, and may not comply with EU regulations.

Anxiety Disorders

Introduction

Anxiety disorders are serious medical illnesses that affect approximately 19 million American adults. These disorders fill people's lives with overwhelming anxiety and fear. Unlike the relatively mild, brief anxiety caused by a stressful event such as a business presentation or a first date, anxiety disorders are chronic, relentless, and can grow progressively worse if not treated.

Effective treatments for anxiety disorders are available, and research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives. If you think you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek information and treatment.

This brochure will

• help you identify the symptoms of anxiety disorders,
• explain the role of research in understanding the causes of these conditions,
• describe effective treatments,
• help you learn how to obtain treatment and work with a doctor or therapist, and
• suggest ways to make treatment more effective.

The anxiety disorders discussed in this brochure are

• panic disorder,
• obsessive-compulsive disorder,
• post-traumatic stress disorder,
• social phobia (or social anxiety disorder),
• specific phobias, and
• generalized anxiety disorder.

Each anxiety disorder has its own distinct features, but they are all bound together by the common theme of excessive, irrational fear and dread.

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) supports scientific investigation into the causes, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of anxiety disorders and other mental illnesses. The NIMH mission is to reduce the burden of mental illness through research on mind, brain, and behavior. NIMH is a component of the National Institutes of Health, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Panic Disorder

"It started 10 years ago, when I had just graduated from college and started a new job. I was sitting in a business seminar in a hotel and this thing came out of the blue. I felt like I was dying.

"For me, a panic attack is almost a violent experience. I feel disconnected from reality. I feel like I'm losing control in a very extreme way. My heart pounds really hard, I feel like I can't get my breath, and there's an overwhelming feeling that things are crashing in on me.

"In between attacks there is this dread and anxiety that it's going to happen again. I'm afraid to go back to places where I've had an attack. Unless I get help, there soon won't be anyplace where I can go and feel safe from panic."

People with panic disorder have feelings of terror that strike suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. They can't predict when an attack will occur, and many develop intense anxiety between episodes, worrying when and where the next one will strike.

If you are having a panic attack, most likely your heart will pound and you may feel sweaty, weak, faint, or dizzy. Your hands may tingle or feel numb, and you might feel flushed or chilled. You may have nausea, chest pain or smothering sensations, a sense of unreality, or fear of impending doom or loss of control. You may genuinely believe you're having a heart attack or losing your mind, or on the verge of death.

Panic attacks can occur at any time, even during sleep. An attack generally peaks within 10 minutes, but some symptoms may last much longer.

Panic disorder affects about 2.4 million adult Americans 1 and is twice as common in women as in men. It most often begins during late adolescence or early adulthood. 2 Risk of developing panic disorder appears to be inherited. Not everyone who experiences panic attacks will develop panic disorder—for example, many people have one attack but never have another. For those who do have panic disorder, though, it's important to seek treatment. Untreated, the disorder can become very disabling.

Many people with panic disorder visit the hospital emergency room repeatedly or see a number of doctors before they obtain a correct diagnosis. Some people with panic disorder may go for years without learning that they have a real, treatable illness.

Panic disorder is often accompanied by other serious conditions such as depression, drug abuse, or alcoholism and may lead to a pattern of avoidance of places or situations where panic attacks have occurred. For example, if a panic attack strikes while you're riding in an elevator, you may develop a fear of elevators. If you start avoiding them, that could affect your choice of a job or apartment and greatly restrict other parts of your life.

Some people's lives become so restricted that they avoid normal, everyday activities such as grocery shopping or driving. In some cases they become housebound. Or, they may be able to confront a feared situation only if accompanied by a spouse or other trusted person.

Basically, these people avoid any situation in which they would feel helpless if a panic attack were to occur. When people's lives become so restricted, as happens in about one-third of people with panic disorder, the condition is called agoraphobia . Early treatment of panic disorder can often prevent agoraphobia.

Panic disorder is one of the most treatable of the anxiety disorders, responding in most cases to medications or carefully targeted psychotherapy.

You may genuinely believe you're having a heart attack, losing your mind, or are on the verge of death. Attacks can occur at any time, even during sleep.

Depression

Depression often accompanies anxiety disorders and, when it does, it needs to be treated as well. Symptoms of depression include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, changes in appetite or sleep, low energy, and difficulty concentrating. Most people with depression can be effectively treated with antidepressant medications, certain types of psychotherapy, or a combination of both.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

"I couldn't do anything without rituals. They invaded every aspect of my life. Counting really bogged me down. I would wash my hair three times as opposed to once because three was a good luck number and one wasn't. It took me longer to read because I'd count the lines in a paragraph. When I set my alarm at night, I had to set it to a number that wouldn't add up to a "bad" number.

"Getting dressed in the morning was tough because I had a routine, and if I didn't follow the routine, I'd get anxious and would have to get dressed again. I always worried that if I didn't do

something, my parents were going to die. I'd have these terrible thoughts of harming my parents. That was completely irrational, but the thoughts triggered more anxiety and more senseless behavior. Because of the time I spent on rituals, I was unable to do a lot of things that were important to me.

"I knew the rituals didn't make sense, and I was deeply ashamed of them, but I couldn't seem to overcome them until I had therapy."

Obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD, involves anxious thoughts or rituals you feel you can't control. If you have OCD, you may be plagued by persistent, unwelcome thoughts or images, or by the urgent need to engage in certain rituals.

You may be obsessed with germs or dirt, so you wash your hands over and over. You may be filled with doubt and feel the need to check things repeatedly. You may have frequent thoughts of violence, and fear that you will harm people close to you. You may spend long periods touching things or counting; you may be pre-occupied by order or symmetry; you may have persistent thoughts of performing sexual acts that are repugnant to you; or you may be troubled by thoughts that are against your religious beliefs.

The disturbing thoughts or images are called obsessions, and the rituals that are performed to try to prevent or get rid of them are called compulsions. There is no pleasure in carrying out the rituals you are drawn to, only temporary relief from the anxiety that grows when you don't perform them.

A lot of healthy people can identify with some of the symptoms of OCD, such as checking the stove several times before leaving the house. But for people with OCD, such activities consume at least an hour a day, are very distressing, and interfere with daily life.

Most adults with this condition recognize that what they're doing is senseless, but they can't stop it. Some people, though, particularly children with OCD, may not realize that their behavior is out of the ordinary.

OCD afflicts about 3.3 million adult Americans. It strikes men and women in approximately equal numbers and usually first appears in childhood, adolescence, or early adulthood. One-third of adults with OCD report having experienced their first symptoms as children. The course of the disease is variable—symptoms may come and go, they may ease over time, or they can grow progressively worse. Research evidence suggests that OCD might run in families.

Depression or other anxiety disorders may accompany OCD, and some people with OCD also have eating disorders. In addition, people with OCD may avoid situations in which they might have to confront their obsessions, or they may try unsuccessfully to use alcohol or drugs to calm themselves. If OCD grows severe enough, it can keep someone from holding down a job or from carrying out normal responsibilities at home.

OCD generally responds well to treatment with medications or carefully targeted psychotherapy.

The disturbing thoughts or images are called obsessions, and the rituals performed to try to prevent or get rid of them are called compulsions. There is no pleasure in carrying out the rituals you are drawn to, only temporary relief from the anxiety that grows when you don't perform them.

Psoriasis Treatment Using Natural Remedies

If you have Psoriasis or any other skin problem, I know you are always looking for a solution. With psoriasis, the skin breaks out in itchy rashes, unsightly blemishes, and white flakes.

In psoriasis, the skin cells multiply quickly causing rashes to appear quickly. Normal skin renews itself in 30 days, but in psoriasis, skin cells move from the innermost layer of skin to the skin surface in 3 days, causing red and itchy areas. In addition, as cells accumulate on the surface they die, turning white and flaky.

Finding a psoriasis treatment that cures is not easy since there doesn’t appear to be one. Most doctors or dermatologists do not know what causes psoriasis and consider it incurable. But there are many different natural remedies that can give some relief to psoriasis but at far as a natural psoriasis treatment that is a cure, there is none.

Here is a list of psoriasis treatments that you may want to try.

Give your skin some sun to give your body additional energy and Vitamin D to fight your psoriasis. You can add Vitamin D supplements to the list of vitamins you take. The psoriasis sun treatment works better with UVB rays but these rays also cause sunburn. So you may want to put sunscreen on those areas that do not have psoriasis.

Drink teas or take capsules of sarsaparilla, milk thistle or nettle leaves.

Take a regular dose of fish oil or flax seed. Start with 1500 mg per day of fish oil

Use a couple tablespoons of granular lecithin. You can add it to your soups, salads, morning cereal, or smoothes. Never add it to boiling water or use it as cooking oil since it oxidizes rapidly and becomes rancid.

Take large dose of inositol, a B vitamin, around 1.5 grams or more and see how it affects your psoriasis.

Use a diluted apple cider vinegar over your psoriasis to reduce itching. Start with 10 parts apple cider vinegar to 90 part of distilled water. No known pathogen can survive in apple cider vinegar.

Keep stress down if possible, stress lowers the immune system and a weak immune system cannot keep up with the activity of psoriasis.

There is another herb that appears to be an excellent psoriasis treatment. It’s called mahonia quifolium and is better known as Oregon grape or holly-leaved barberry, which is a natural plant extract

This extract is a,

A strong antibacterial

A strong antifungal

Inhibits the excessive abnormal skin cell growth

Reduces inflammation

Activates the release of histamine

You can find mahonia aquifolium in a product called M-Folia. This product comes in various forms – ointments, shampoos, sunscreen, and cream preparations

Keep your psoriasis area open to air and don’t allow jewelry or tight clothing to press against it. Stay of away from harsh chemicals sprays and liquid irritants.

Keep stress down if possible, stress lowers the immune system and a weak immune system cannot keep up with the activity of psoriasis.

Use a psoriasis treatment as mentioned above to help give you psoriasis relief. You can use a combination of these remedies, so experiment to see which works the best for you.

A lot of people combine conventional means with alternative measures in finding cures to anxieties. This is a good idea. This combination is better known as complementary therapies. A lot of practitioners agree to the benefits that can be derived from this fusion. On the other hand, for the sake of your well-being, it is important to try non-chemical means of overcoming anxiety and panic attacks.

Here is one of the alternative techniques designed specifically to cure anxiety and panic attacks:

Acupressure: As the word suggests, acupressure is an ancient Chinese art of healing similar in many ways to acupuncture. It uses hands (at times other parts of the body like feet and elbow) in applying pressure to specific points of the human body depending on your illness or concern.

This healing technique is completely safe, without side effects, and 100% natural. No medication is required. The results in controling anxiety and panic attacks are effective and instantaneous. And the best part is that it is inexpensive (even free, if you know the fundamentals of acupressure). By mere hand pressure, you can restore or accentuate the flow of energy in the body to activate its own healing process. This energy which is better known as Qi (pronounced â€Âœchiâ€Â

Panic Attack Treatment

There are many different treatments associated with panic attacks. The first thing you should consider is seeing your primary care physician. Your primary care physician can help prescribe medications to overcome the immediate symptoms that you might be experiencing.

Next, you should seek a counselor or psychiatrist, preferably one that is experienced with anxiety disorders. A counselor will be able to help you work out any underlying problems that might be triggering your panic attacks. Your counselor will help determine a course of action for your treatments.

There are many natural methods to treating panic disorder. I am a panic disorder survivor and have been for over a year. I had approximately 15 recurring panic attacks daily. I eventually overcame my panic disorder and have been panic free and med free for almost a year now. I still treat myself with natural methods to help reduce my anxiety.

One key factor in the treatment of my panic attacks was a book Panic Away. Yes, a simple book helped me to overcome the fear in my life. This book along with other natural treatments that I learned along the way helped me end the cycle of my panic.

Keep checking back for more information on the treatment of panic attacks. I will be revealing all my information on the different factors that I use in my lifestyle to help manage my panic and anxiety disorder.

Use Digestive Enzymes to Reduce Hemorrhoid Inflammation

Using digestive enzymes when you have hemorrhoids is a good idea. Digestive enzymes help reduce inflammation, reduce fibrin, and clean the blood of foreign particles. These enzymes activities strengthen your immune system and give it more power to work on your hemorrhoids.

Bromelain

Bromelain is a digestive enzyme that is found in pineapple. It's capable of reducing inflammation and swelling and for this reason has been used to treat hemorrhoids.

Bromelain also activates a chemical that promotes the breakdown of fibrin. Fibrin is a chemical that repairs open wounds, internal wounds and weak tissue by creating fibrin deposits. If you are over 35, fibrin is not balanced with your body's enzymes. This results in excess fibrin deposits at inflamed locations, eventually causing more sickness and disease. Disease.

To balance and control excess fibrin activity, you need to take digestive or systemic enzymes. Systemic enzymes are enzymes that work throughout the body to attack blood impurities and dissolve fibrin.

As a supplement take 500-750 mg a day. You can also add fresh pineapple to your diet since it is high in fiber and other nutrients.

Digestive and Systemic Enzymes

Digestive enzymes are used to help you digest your food and improve your assimilation. Systemic enzymes are found deep into our body. They are in your tissues, organs, and cells where they help in all types of chemical reactions that your body is involved in.

Both types of these enzymes are available in capsules so you can easily supplement your diet. Digestive enzymes help to reduce the stress you get in the rectum when your food is not properly digested. Undigested food reaching the colon eventually leads to constipation.

Take a good digestive enzyme that you can get at health food store. Take 2 capsules with each meal.

Systemic enzymes help reduce swelling, inflammation, improve circulation, and speed the healing of tissue. One important fact about systemic enzymes is they eliminate fibrin, which is at center of most inflammatory conditions and illness.

Take systemic enzymes between meals. This allows them reach the small intestine and get absorbed into the blood stream where they can do their work.

Some systemic enzymes are enteric enzymes, which means they are coated so they will not dissolve in the stomach. This allows them to move into the small intestine where they will be absorbed into your blood stream.

The brand Vitalzyme contains serrapeptase, a systemic enzyme that is mix with other nutrients and enzymes. Just put Vitalzyme or serrapeptase into the goggle engine. This will bring in a flood of sites for you to chose a good systemic enzyme.

Anxiety And Stress - Natural Ways To Dissipate Them So You Can Relax

More than ever before scientific surveys are attesting the essential role stress can play in causing and aggravating different physical and emotional disorders. In the June 6, 1983 issue of Time Magazine, the cover story described stress as "The Epidemic of the Eighties." The article also declared that stress is a critical health problem. Indeed there is very little doubt that the world has become a lot more complicated and stressful over the last two decades since that article was written.

Several surveys show that most adults are under the impression of being under a great deal of stress. Authorities in the field estimate that between 75 and 90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are related to stress.

Most adults say that their job is the major reason of their stress. Stress levels have also increased in children and the senior population because of several reasons including: Peer pressures that often push people to everything from cigarette smoking to alcoholism and drug abuse; the loss of religion and family values; increased crime rates; fear for personal safety; as well as social isolation and loneliness.

Stress can cause and aggravate problems such as diabetes, ulcers, low back and neck pain, high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks. This is because of the increased sympathetic nervous system activity along with a high level of cortisol, adrenaline, and other hormones. Chronic stress is co-morbid with impaired immune system resistance. Stress can be responsible for anxiety, depression, and its different effects on one's organs.

The following definition for "stress" can be found in the American Heritage Dictionary: "To subject to physical or mental pressure, tension, or strain"

The following is the definition of "tension" from the same dictionary: "Mental, emotional, or nervous strain"

The following definition is given for "anxiety": "A state of uneasiness and apprehension, as about future uncertainties"

And the word "depression" is defined as follows: "The condition of feeling sad or despondent"

The following is the definition of "clinical depression": "A psychiatric disorder characterized by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, anhedonia, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness, and thoughts of death."

What we can be sure of is that our mind is the chief cause of our experience of stress, anxiety and depression. In other words, what we think about, and our attitudes and points of view about our experiences dictate what we feel. That way, if we can learn how to alter our thoughts, attitudes, and points of view, then we can be relieved of our stress, anxiety, and depression and attain a more positive state of being.

People have always looked for methods for eliminating stress. With the pharmaceutical industry there seems to be a drug for everything. And to that end the industry has developed a wide line of sedatives from Valium to Xanax. If you choose to utilize drugs for relief, please be sure to pay attention to the fine print and learn about the side effects, which often include addiction and dependency. Indeed these types of drugs try to treat the symptoms, instead of the cause. So as soon as one stops ingesting them, the symptoms can come back.

A finer way of eliminating tension, stress, anxiety, and depression is to treat its actual cause, which as I said before, is generally our thought processes. There is good news. The essence of hypnosis is relaxation. The AMA recognized hypnosis in 1958 as an effective way to treat stress and stress related symptoms. However unlike anxiolytics, there are completely no undesirable side effects.

When you enter hypnosis, you are in the Alpha level of consciousness. It is the daydream like temporary psychological frame of mind that we pass through as we are about to fall asleep in the evening. And we pass through it once more as we awaken in the morning. There are lots of different ways to guide ourselves into this relaxed mood, from progressive relaxation to visual imagery to listening to hypnosis CD's.

When we get into a hypnotic state, we are able to communicate with our unconscious mind, which is the center of our feelings. And one can more easily accept new ideas and points of view which can help us to eliminate anxiety, or even avoid it completely.

NLP, which is a recently developed type of hypnosis, has various really good techniques for eliminating stress. Maybe the most effective technique is called the "swish" pattern - or the "flash" pattern. When you use this technique, your unconscious will automatically use negative, stress producing mental images, as triggers for tranquilizing mental images. Put differently, what usually makes you feel stress will now make you feel more relaxed!

TO SUMMARIZE Our thoughts can activate depression, anxiety and tension. So if we change our attitude and the way we perceive our situation and our experiences, we can eliminate these feelings at the root. Hypnosis and NLP are natural tools that make it possible to change our attitude and point of view to quickly eliminate the source of our negative feelings.

Are You Aware Of These Clogged Arteries Symptoms?

The most regular cause of clogged arteries is called atherosclerosis. It occurs as a course when plaque resides in inner lining of the artery. This plague is in fact made of fat, cholesterol, fibrin, cellular waste products and calcium deposits. The more plaque remains, the more it gets thickens. Over the time, it would get hardened, slim the artery, trouble the normal flow as well as also stop of oxygen-rich blood to the other organs as well as parts of our body.

When the clogged arteries stop the blood to flow liberally to heart muscle, you must be feeling some of these clogged arteries symptoms:

• Chest distress in center area like tightness, numbness, heaviness, aching, fullness, pressure, burning, or squeezing. It comes as well as goes with duration of more than few minutes.

• Discomfort or pain on area closed to heart like the arms, back, left shoulder, jaw or neck.

• Rapid unequal heart beats or shortness of breath.

• Dizziness, light-headedness.

• Sweating or cold sweat.

• Anxiety or extreme weakness.

• Fullness or choking feeling.

• Vomiting or nausea.

Women rarely feel the discomfort of chest as the men do. They regularly get different clogged arteries symptoms like sleep disturbances, indigestion, unusual fatigue, anxiety and shortness of breath. When flowing of blood to the heart muscle is totally blocked, heart attack can occur. Without instant treatment, it may lead to severe problems or even death.

The clogged arteries symptoms that cause a stroke:

• Numbness or weakness.

• Not able to move one side of the body like the arm, face or leg.

• Loss of balance while walking.

• Difficulty to speak usually, understand.

• Difficulty in swallowing.

• Loss of consciousness.

• Dizziness

• Severe headache.

If you have some of these clogged arteries symptoms, then you should go asking for an advice from your doctor immediately, otherwise your condition can get worse. One of natural ways that can help you dealing with this issue is systemic enzyme such as vitalzym or vitalzymx, especially if you have an acute or chronic condition. But make sure you know every detail that you should know before consuming it.

Welcome To the Age of Anxiety: How to cope with the World Spinning out of Control

If the '20's were known as "Roaring," the '60's were about "Flower Power," and the '80's were the "Me Generation," then the 2000's will go down as the "Age of Anxiety." Even the June 10, 2002 cover of TIME Magazine is entitled: "Understanding Anxiety: Now more than ever, we are worrying ourselves sick!" It's true! About a third of my practice deals with what I am required by Texas State Law to refer to as "habitual worry." (The term "anxiety" is reserved for the medical profession... or preachers or lawyers!?)

The TIME article goes on to state: (1) We live in a particularly anxious age. (2) Eight months after the 9/11 crisis nearly two-thirds of Americans still think about the attack several times per week. (3) Nineteen million Americans are affected by anxiety disorders, but less than 25 percent ever seek treatment. My own theory about why so few seek help stems from the comments I hear from those who do show up, like "Oh, thank God! (when I tell them they are not alone) "I thought I was going crazy!" Why are we as a nation so scared? And what can we do about it?

First things, first. I believe a number of factors play into the "excessive worry" epidemic. We are literally overloaded, bombarded, with information daily. This "information crush" has the effect of short circuiting our own electrical systems. Then, too, people in general have less quiet time and very few understand how to get it. Solitude acts as a safety valve to let off "excess information" steam. Exercise, especially meditative types like Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates, and solitary pursuits like walking or running alone, can serve the same purpose.

Processed foods-- really little more than conglomerations of chemicals with refined sugar added-- also overload the central nervous system. (Review research at www.radiantrecovery.com) And, any toxins, including food additives, overload the liver and make it work harder to keep the body functioning properly. More heavy demands are made on the body by stress, which overload the adrenal glands. Eventually the body just wears out and the coping mechanisms break down, sometimes completely. The body processes "fear" in a two-phase approach. When fearful stimuli are perceived, one circuit goes through the amygdala, otherwise known as "fear central." The amygdala is the tiny almond shaped portion of the brain that doesn't take time to discriminate or reason things out. It just sends out messages to the "fight-or-flight" mechanism that say "Hey, get us out of here!!"

And the body responds blindly. Digestion and reasoning are shut down as blood is moved away from the brain and stomach and toward the arms and legs so we can "run like crazy" or stand up and fight. A second, slower route is through the cerebral cortex. This portion of the brain takes time to analyze the situation and come up with a game plan. If it decides, for example, that the "ghost" was only some sheets "Grandma" hung outside to dry that are now flapping in the breeze, it will send a message to the amygdala to "stand down." The only problem with the system is that the Fear switch is much easier to turn on than it is to turn off. In fact, what scientists are beginning to learn is that some people have switches that are stuck in the "on" position (namely chronic sufferers from anxiety disorders, like panic attacks, generalized anxiety, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder to name a few.)

So what can you do if you're one of those people who suffer from "excessive fear and worry?" First, if you're reading this magazine, you're probably not interested in a pharmaceutical approach. At best, anti-anxiety medications can help you temporarily while you rebuild your adrenals and the rest of your coping mechanism. If you do decide to try pharmaceuticals, be sure to ask your physician lots of questions, and I recommend reading the drug section of The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook, by Edmund J. Bourne, Ph.D. Many of these drugs have serious side effects and some are highly addictive.

From what I've seen, what works best for each person is highly individualized. So, I usually suggest a multiple-prong approach: (1) Essential oils like lavender can have fairly instantaneous calming effects. A few drops in the bath or a foot soak or dabbed behind the ears work wonders. (2) Borrowing from the Behaviorists, one of the best treatments "fearful" people can give themselves is usually the hardest for them to follow. To reduce anxiety and worry, remove as much disturbing stimuli as you can from the environment. Change jobs or take a vacation. Cut back on the amount of activities you try to cram into a week and get more sleep. Delegate. Ask for help. (3) Spend more time exercising. Exercise produces endorphins, nature's antidepressants. (4) Breathe--deeply. Oxygen is the #1 ingredient your body needs to survive and thrive. (5) Try the cognitive approach. Practice becoming aware of negative self talk and transforming it to positives. According to Dr. Bourne, worriers tend to imagine the worst possible scenarios all the time.

One of the best ways to change negative self talk is at the subconscious level. My primary tool is hypnosis. After all, all habits, including the habit of being afraid, are stored in the subconscious mind. The particular hypnotic techniques I use in working with "excessive worriers" include: releasing root causes; parts therapy (negotiating with the fearful part and getting it to agree to relax); desensitization to the fear producing stimuli; anchoring a "safe feeling" button; providing post hypnotic suggestions that work automatically to keep the person calm; and translogic, which helps move the anxious thinking from the emotional right-brain to the logical left brain. Once the person can begin to see the problem logically, they can begin to take the actions to heal themselves.

Explosive Anger Disorder (EAD)-New label in the lexicon of the psychologists & psychiatrists

Explosive Anger Disorder! (EAD) This is a "new" label in the lexicon of the psychologists and psychiatrists. (You should know that most such labels are made up in order to get paid by insurance companies, and have no relation to real diagnosis.) It's for an old problem that has been around for many decades. The funny thing is that most doctors have refused to recognize it, or the cause, and most still don't.

The official party line of the American Medical Assn. is that if there is no diabetes (measurable sugar affect), then there's no sugar problem. As is often the case, they're WRONG! The problem is virtually always a sugar problem.

Hypoglycemia is a medical term for "low blood sugar". The brain requires large amounts of glucose and oxygen for fuel. When it goes below a certain point, a hypoglycemic episode occurs. This can become almost any symptom up to and including coma and even death. In most cases, such a hypoglycemic episode may only cause drowsiness or sleepiness, but fainting and passing out is not unknown.

Let's examine the actual cause of the "new" disease (label for insurance purposes) called "Explosive Anger Disorder" (EDT). As a result of blood sugar going low because of excessive insulin released, both adrenalin and testosterone may be released in males. (In women, estrogen is released.) In some males, this causes what is called "undifferentiated" rage in some men/boys. Does that sound like "explosive anger" to you? Of course it is. Why do medical researchers keep re-inventing the wheel?

This may also be part of the current "road rage" problem as well as childhood tantrums, spousal abuse, bar fights, etc.

Back in the 1980's, I found several male patients who had this form of hypoglycemia. I also found that they all fit a "special" format of the MMPI (Minnesota Multiple Personality Inventory) test for "psuedo-schizoprenia". Since that time, I have seen such "rages" in boys, and some men. If investigated, it will usually be found that they are a 3-4 hour period after eating (or drinking) a lot of carbohydrates and sugars.

Temper tantrums are not unusual, particularly in "spoiled kids", but if it occurs about 3-4 hours after a "sweet meal", you can be pretty sure that child has a sugar handling problem, and needs to limit carbohydrates/sugars.

Glucose is the form of sugar in the blood. This has been transformed in the digestive process from other sugars and starches into glucose then passed into the bloodstream.

Hypoglycemia is usually caused by too much insulin driving too much glucose into the body cells, which depletes the supply of glucose available to the brain (and other areas).

Since glucose is as necessary to proper brain function as is oxygen, there are many different symptoms possible. These can range from a simple yawn about a half hour to an hour after eating, to a full-blown anxiety attack, or even a real depression (the term "sugar blues" has a basis in real fact), or even death for diabetics, or almost anything in between. Sometimes, allergies can cause similar symptoms, or even cause a hypoglycemic episode!

In non-diabetic persons, too much insulin can be the result of a sugar overload, and this can cause hypoglycemia. To some "sensitive persons", this can be as simple as eating a doughnut or drinking a full glass of orange juice on an empty stomach. (Happened to me!) The response to low sugar/glucose is individual, and everyone reacts slightly differently. Also, one person can eat a dozen doughnuts one time with no bad effects, and have a hypoglycemic episode from just one doughnut at another time.

Let's look at a simple example, which will help clear up some of the confusion surrounding this subject. If a normal (whatever that is) person eats an apple, he/she will gain approximately the equivalent of 3 teaspoons of sugar. It will take about 3 hours to digest the apple in the following way:

1. As sugar is absorbed in the mouth, in the stomach, and the small intestine, the amounts are measured and the brain determines how much insulin to release into the blood. For simplicity, let's call this process a "sugarstat". We don't fully understand how it works, but we do know the effects.

2. From millions of years of evolution, the sugarstat "knows" that with the amount of sugar absorbed over a certain time it needs a certain amount of insulin and releases that amount accordingly.

3. Now, it takes 3-4 hours for all the sugar to be digested from the apple fiber as it passes thru the digestive system. It's a downward curve, and the insulin released also has a similar downward curve, and it lasts about the same 3 hours in the blood, as it's used.

So, eating an apple has an immediate effect of raising glucose (blood sugar) somewhat, and this "blip" is fast compensated for by insulin release, and from that point the incoming sugar is pretty well balanced by insulin release over the three or so hours of digestion. In effect, there is very little change in blood sugar, and that's what nature intended - the sugarstat is working as designed.

The situation is drastically different if we "pre-digest" the same apple by squeezing it in a cider press. In effect, all we have removed is the fiber, and retained all the sugar, vitamins/minerals, etc. (A glass of apple juice might contain the juice from 10 apples or 30 teaspoons of sugar). Now, there is much more sugar absorbed very fast, and the sugarstat is "fooled" into releasing many times the amount of insulin actually needed as a result.

Remember that for millions of years of evolution, we didn't have cider presses, let alone the "designer" apples of today. Let alone the processed foods! We simply aren't designed to handle the amounts of sugar we get. (In the 1800's the average intake of sugar was about 5 pounds. Today it's over 200 pounds.)

This "overdose" of insulin drives blood sugar into body cells at a furious rate, and even though the blip is now much larger, it quickly lowers it.

The sugarstat has released enough insulin for 3 hours of digestion, but all the sugar is actually digested and within the bloodstream within minutes. This results in way too much insulin (hyperinsulinism), since enough insulin has been released for three hours of this same amount of intake. The sugarstat has been "fooled", by not evolving far enough to handle our "modern" food processing.

This excess insulin "drives" all the glucose it can find in the blood into the body cells (its job). This results in a shortage of glucose to the brain.

Now, since the brain MUST have glucose as well as oxygen, for fuel, several body mechanisms go into action to raise the glucose. (Few people realize that without BOTH glucose AND oxygen, brain cells start to die in about 4 minutes).

The two most important body hyperinsulinism defenses are adrenalin release, which releases stored glucose for emergencies (the flight/fight response), and the release of some fats and sex hormones that can be converted to glucose. The combination of adrenaline and testosterone may result in EAD. (A new names for an old mostly undiagnosed sugar-handling problem.)

From the above scenario, it can be seen that hypoglycemia isn't really an actual disease, but in fact, it is actually normal to we humans, even though the effects are individual and may vary greatly. It's our modern sugary diet full of processed or pre-digested food that's really to blame.

These body defenses against low blood sugar also cause some very different symptoms in different individuals. Usually, this is about 3+ hours after eating a sugary processed meal. This time may also vary from about 2.5 hours to 5 hours in different individuals at different times.

One symptom that is not uncommon in women is a panic/anxiety attack, or even fainting. Men sometimes might experience these symptoms, but not as often.

An anxiety attack caused by a hypoglycemia episode while driving might result in a phobia of driving, or if driving in a tunnel, a phobia about that, or if on a bridge, a phobia about that. In practice, I've seen all three of these phobias generated by hypoglycemic episodes!

(I wrote a paper in 1982 describing "Adult Onset Phobias", and how hypoglycemia episodes can cause them.)

Men have another symptom. The combination of testosterone and adrenalin may trigger "undifferentiated" anger in a man. He will have a "rational" (to him) reason for the anger, but bystanders can't understand how he got so angry for "no real reason". Men who change personality dramatically while drinking are of this type.

I once helped to save a marriage by simply advising the husband to eat a handful of peanuts and raisins every two hours after lunch. (He was her boss, and at 3PM, she couldn't do anything right according to him - his lunch included a candy bar and a soda!!)

Anyone who has a sugar handling problem might be well advised to carry a bag of peanuts and raisins around, and make sure that they eat a handful every two hours or so. (A ratio of about 5 peanuts to 1 raisin.) The raisins will provide glucose within a relatively short time, and the peanuts will provide protein and fats that can be converted into glucose over a longer time. This was what I usually advised hypoglycemic sensitive persons to do, and it works well. Really sensitive persons should know to eat 6-8 small meals every day. A meal might be a hard-boiled egg, or half an apple, etc.

On the usual Glucose Tolerance Test (for diabetes or hypoglycemia), the subject is given a measured dose of glucose in a horribly sweet soda type of drink, and measurements are made before this drink, 1/2 hour after drinking, then at one hour, and then every hour until either 5 or 6 hours have passed.

This test is more often done wrong than perhaps any other medical test used. These are the common mistakes made by medical practitioners and hospitals:

1. They just give the standard 10-oz bottle to anyone, and it's way too much for a child or a small person. There is a weight/volume slide rule that should be used, but usually isn't. At 6' tall and 200 pounds, I should take only 7 ounces!

2. The measurements are too mechanical. I believe (along with most other knowledgeable practitioners) that the patient should be advised strongly to let the person (usually a nurse) giving the glucose test know if they experience any symptoms at all from yawning to headaches, etc.

3. Between 3 and 4 hours of the test is the most likely time for most persons to experience hypoglycemia, even passing out in some cases. If no symptoms are noticed, it is a good idea to test at the 3 1/2 hour mark.

4. When the test is concluded, do NOT let the patient leave the clinic, office, or hospital, until they have been given food, preferably fast digesting food. I often used a small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, in season, and out of season the handful of peanuts and raisins. Many persons have left a clinic or office and passed out on the street, or perhaps had an auto accident.

The above applies primarily to GTT's where diabetes is not a factor. A fasting glucose test will find diabetes instead, and is much safer.

In Orlando, where I checked on all the hospitals, and several MD's offices, I found none that did all the above correctly, and most made all the above mistakes. Be advised.

I hope this helps you in your quest for better health.

In some males, this causes what is called "undifferentiated" rage in some men/boys.

Natural Herbs for Anxiety

If you’ve been trying to stop your overwhelming anxiety for any length of time, you’re probably already familiar with some of the more common strategies. Breathing techniques, mental exercises and finding physical outlets for stress are just a few. Granted, these tactics work pretty well, if you want to speed up the process, the following 5 natural herbs for anxiety are sure to do the trick.

I have to admit, prior to trying out the herbs listed below, I was pretty skeptical of the results. I’ve never considered myself the holistic, hippie type. I had some reluctance going the route of natural herbs to deal with my anxiety.

What finally convinced me was a simple yet effective remedy to nighttime panic that yielded amazing results.

I used to have a LOT of trouble getting to sleep at night. My mind would toss and turn and it seemed impossible to get to bed with the unstoppable, anxious thoughts rolling around in my head. A good friend told me to try Sleepytime tea with Valerian root by Celestial Seasons.

I figured I’d give it a shot. I picked up a box of the tea at my local supermarket and quickly discovered drinking it before bed was a great way to lull my body into a calm state.

The Valerian root in the tea decreased my anxiety like nothing I had ever found.

I decided to do a little research about the herb and found out that it has mild tranquilizing properties. Obviously it’s not the kind of thing you should ingest before operating heavy machinery or driving, but valerian root proved to be an awesome, gentle solution for my nighttime anxiety. It led me to do some more research.

I wasn’t looking for something that acted like a heavy drug; quite the contrary. I was looking to find natural supplements that I could weave into my diet to give me a nice, gentle way take the edge off daily stress.

After some trial and error, I came up with the 5 effective herbs for anxiety listed below. As always, talk to your doctor before using any of these herbs on a regular basis.

Passion Flower

Passion Flower acts as a non-drowsy, natural sedative that relieves intermittent nervousness, anxiety and panic attacks. It’s actually the vine of the passion flower that holds the soothing effects.

Rather than knock you out or make you sleepy, passion flower will make you feel emotionally balanced. It won’t give you a hyper, happy or excited feeling. Instead, passion flower will restrain your emotions from its range of extremes. If you have exaggerated emotions throughout the day (you go from very happy to very angry or sad), you may find passion flower to be a nice supplement.

St. Johns Wort

Extracts of this popular herb exert an antidepressant effect by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Dosage may vary. The one I took had a recommended serving of three grams of powder per day, but you really need to take it for weeks before results are felt. That said, if you just buy the supplement pills at your health store, this herb becomes a convenient way to ward off the blues.

Ginkgo Biloba

Used to improve circulation to the brain, Ginkgo Biloba elevates mood and is often used as a natural antidepressant. Side effects are minimal, but talk to your doctor if you decide to go this route. Ginkgo Biloba has been linked with bleeding disorders so you should do your homework before giving it a try.

Meadow Sweet

Meadow Sweet relieves headaches related to anxiety and stress. You can drink meadowsweet tea or extract as a convenient dietary supplement.

I have just a couple of warnings for you here. People with sensitivity to aspirin should avoid the use of meadow Sweet. Keep in mind, it should never be used to lower headaches or fevers in children as it may possibly lead to Reye’s syndrome.

Kava Kava

This is one of the most popular choices for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia. It is a powerful herb from the South Seas. Used as an alternative to Valium, research studies have found it reduces anxiety equivalently. The advantage is that there are no addictive side effects with the Kava Kava.

Bear in mind, Kava Kava WILL knock you out. It acts as a sedative so don’t take it if you need to stay alert for any duration of time. This is a more powerful alternative if Valerian root isn’t getting rid of your nocturnal anxiety effectively enough.

Talk to you doctor and see if they advocate adding any of these natural herbs to your diet. I’ve tried the ones mentioned above. Your own results will vary but for myself, I found Valerian Root and St. Johns Wort to be the most beneficial for my specific anxiety traits.

Remember, adding these supplements to your daily routine won’t do a thing if you’re not engaging in the RIGHT anxiety fighting tactics. Knowing strategies that effectively reduce panic, stress and anxiety is the only way to get over your debilitating condition.
