Anxiety Attacks: Your Internal Terrorist

Anxiety attacks are feelings of intense worry coupled with symptoms such as excessive sweating, heavy breathing, feelings of being in extreme danger, a sinking feeling of sickness that sits in your stomach that you can't get rid of. Anxiety could be said to be the big brother of shyness or paranoia. The feelings you are experiencing are imagined and have nothing to do with reality.

You must understand that almost all perceived threats people experience when they are going through this have almost no chance of actually occurring, but the people who experience anxiety attacks will spend most of their time worrying about imagined consequences. Anxiety attacks can be your internal terrorist because they will cause you to feel overwhelming emotions of fear you feel like you just can't control.

You have to ask yourself one question if you suffer from anxiety attacks, what brings on the intense feeling of fear. Is it a social situation? Is it asking someone out? Maybe it is just going to the grocery store or something, either way you have to ask yourself what causes the anxiety and how would your life be different if you moved past it.

Robbing you of happiness:

In almost every instance of anxiety attack what ever is at the other end of the fear is most likely going to help you grow as a person and benefit you. Situations that offer no growth will not cause your anxiety to rise. Think about it; if you are afraid of being around people then it may bring on an anxiety attack, but if you got over it you would probably make lots of new friends that could turn into a really awesome social life.

You may get an anxiety attack at the thought of having to speak in front of people so you avoid this as well, but if you would have ignored your fear you might have learned that you are an excellent speaker. See what I mean? Anxiety attacks will rob you of life's experiences, you'll always want to gravitate towards what you feel represents the least threat so you feel safe.

Anxiety attacks are a way to keep you from growing:

It is not the anxiety attacks per se, but the reaction to the anxiety that will cause you the most harm. The anxiety will act as a little voice in your head stopping you from doing things that will improve you. You will become very timid and nervous, you will try to hide yourself from social situations, and you will want to only interact with those who appear as non threatening as possible. Essentially you will stay the same and not grow. Your internal terrorist will stop you in your tracks every time.

You need to nip your anxiety attacks in the bud by not letting them control you. You may still feel some of its symptom but it is important that whatever action it is stopping you from taking is only designed to keep you where you are in life, and that's nowhere.
